Amid much turmoil at federal health agencies, Anthony Letai, MD, PhD, was sworn in this fall as director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health. Letai has served as professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and a medical oncologist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. His research has led to the development of several treatments and a better understanding of tumors. “Letai has been on the cutting edge of how we think about cancer treatment,” said NIH director Jay Bhattacharya, MD, PhD. “His drive, integrity and expertise make him the right leader to harness the resources and talent at NCI to reverse America’s cancer crisis.”
